Sang H. Han Fine Art

Bio

Sang H. Han was born in Seoul, Korea in 1958 and started manifesting his artistic talents as a child. Having lost his father to cancer at an early age of 8, Sang first used art as a way of escaping reality and finding solace.  As Sang began to develop a passion for art, he embarked on a fully self-taught journey that would change his life to this day.  His passion and inspiration has compelled him to constantly innovate and master new techniques with different types of color and paint.  His specialty is painting oil paintings using a unique combination of brush and knife that synergistically conveys a brilliant spectrum of color and precision. The painting knife allows Sang to flexibly add broad sweeps of color with a thicker texture while the brush allows him to meticulously add fine and delicate details.  In addition, light is an omnipresent feature in almost all of his artworks and the combination of light and intricate details within the paintings enable the viewers to be fully drawn into the realistic paintings.  Sang H. Han is a devoted Christian and believes that his work is a humble reverence of the beauty in God’s creations. He is particularly interested in the distinctive characteristics of the seasonal changes and his paintings embody a calmness in the midst of change, not only in the outside world, but in his own personal life.  Currently, Sang continues to explore and develop new styles and techniques while maintaining a strong emphasis on peace, tranquility and beauty in his paintings.

Bio

Sang H. Han is a Korean-born contemporary landscape painter with a flair for highly detailed panoramic scenes of nature both bursting in life and poetic in silent isolation.
The tragic loss of his father at an early age induced Sang to seek productive escape and solace in the arts. After years of unwavering determination and disciplined self-study, he eventually found comfort in mastering the technical precision of traditional painting techniques most used in Luminism and Impressionism.

In each majestic, usually deserted landscape, harmonious effects of play in light, color and shadows blend with layers created by brushes and textured with paint knives. The method convincingly evokes atmospheric, sweeping views that envelope the viewer in tranquil emotion. His primary medium of oil painting on canvas retains the classical feel and longevity tributary to works of the Old Masters.

A devout Christian, the spirituality of his landscapes is visually inherent - each seascape,
cityscape, creekside, forest vista and seasonal change is glorified in a divine, sublime, organic reality. Be it monochromatic and melancholy, or vividly bright and uplifting, Sang’s reverence to the outer world and its constant state of flux reflects on his intrinsic inner world - filled with energy yet thorough in contemplative dualities, deep strength, calmness and steadiness of character.

Having previously lived in the cities of Seoul, New York, and Dallas, Sang’s paintings over the past 30 years have inspired and transported viewers into these idyllic natural spaces often forgotten in the noise of urban life. His works are consistently and successfully sold into various private collections through multiple gallery consignments, and he currently paints from his family home studio in New Jersey, USA.
